This November, we’re joining our partners at the American Diabetes Association to spotlight how employers and health care providers across Washington and Oregon are creating healthier, more supportive workplaces for people living with diabetes.
This year's theme, “Diabetes and the Workplace,” advocates for creating environments where people living with diabetes can thrive.
From flexible work schedules to access to nutritious meals and private spaces for glucose checks, supportive workplaces play a significant role in helping people with diabetes manage their health.
Across Washington and Oregon, employers and health care providers are working together to expand workplace wellness programs, improve access to screenings, and support employees managing diabetes. These partnerships are helping to detect kidney complications earlier, promote preventive care, and ensure that no one has to choose between their health and their job.
Diabetes isn’t just a personal health issue, t’s a public health priority. With diabetes being the leading cause of kidney failure in the U.S., coordinated action between workplaces and health providers helps strengthen the diabetes community and their long-term health outcomes.
At NWKC, we advocate for policies that empower patients and providers, ensuring people with diabetes have access to the resources they need to protect their kidney health and quality of life – whether that be in the office, at home, or their local clinic.
