On Friday, Sept. 23, NWKC Director of Advocacy James Adkins presented an overview of our “Dialysis After Disaster” resource to the Oregon Senate Committee on Veterans and Emergency Preparedness. The presentation covered key considerations for patients, providers, and legislators as we all work to be better prepared for the next natural disaster.
The Legislature can play an important role in making sure dialysis centers – and homes with dialysis patients – are prioritized for power restoration, that ambulances can be allowed to take noncritical patients to treatment centers instead of hospitals, and that the dialysis perspective is included in all formal preparedness plans.
